Historical: At the request of Parasara Sage, who was killed by Tarakasuran and the temple was first brought to the temple at Pondiripalayam in the northwest of Thanjai and then consecrated to the present place. Some historians believe that this was probably the Nisumbasudani temple founded by Vijayalayan who founded the Chola Empire in Thanjavur.
