Historical: The earliest inscriptions of Chola kings Aditya I (870 CE to 907CE) and Paranthaka I (907-955 CE) are found in this temple. The inscriptions are copied by Archaeological Survey of India and published in Annual report on Epigraphy( ARE) 1905 nos. 123 to 129, ARE 1928 nos. 134-191. & also published in South Indian Inscriptions (SII) vol. V nos 684 to 693 & SII vol XIX nos. 29-31, 70, 111,145,172-174, 213,239,269,286-287, 313&329.
