Prayer: The demon god Vritrasura was very cruel to the gods. Indra begged Brahma to tell him the way to win. Brahma told Indra that he could get the backbone of a sage Thadisi and make it a Vajrayuddha and thereby kill the demon. Indra, accordingly, killed the sage and put his spine on Vajrayuddha and killed Vritrasura. After killing the sage and gaining the backbone, Indra became a Brahmahatti dosha.
He sought the goddess Pragaspati to take this dosha. At his suggestion, Indra came to the earth and made a Tirtha of the Shiva lingam under the wanni tree and anointed it. By the grace of Lord Shiva, Brahma-mahathi dosha was taken away. This place was called Indrapuram because of the worship of Indra. The elephant, the vehicle of Indra, was also worshiped by the deity. The place became known as Chottur because of the tearing of the earth by its ivory. It is believed that the Lord Brahmahati Dosha is worshiped by Indra and you will get rid of the Brahmahatti of all the worshipers of the Lord.
