    Among the Navagraha thalams around Chennai, this is the parikara thalam for the planet Mercury.     This place is known as Thirumeneeswaram because it is the place where Lord Shiva showed his Shivalinga Thirumeni to Goddess Parvati. Devathiyakarasar has praised the lord of this place by singing Govur Pancharatnam. The Purana says that before writing the Great Purana, the Lord blessed Sekizhar with the stroke of Ulagelalam at Kovoor.

    Similar to Kailayam, Mahavilvam is the main tree with nine sixteen leaves. Whatever doshas are worshiped with maha vilvam, they can be removed, it is said by the elders that mahavilva pooja is sarva dosha nirvati.

Annadhanam: An innovative project of the Honble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thirukoil Annadana Project was implemented in this temple in the year 2002, through which 25 people are being given lunch every day to the devotees who visit this temple.

Fifth Theotham: Thirukulam Ezhilura is located in the eastern part of the place with the special name of Iravatha Theetham Shiva Ganga. Legend has it that in the fiftieth year, Indra, the title elephant of the wild elephant, dug up the pond, bathed in it, worshiped Lord Itala and reached his old state.
