Temple Specialty

Parigaram: All the nine planets have a special predominant temple in the undivided Thanjavur district .The Eighth Planet Raagu Baghavan is seated with his consorts in marriage posture (Thirumana Kolam) in seperate shrine in Thirunageshwaram Naganathaswamy Temple. So he is called Mangala Raagu. Devotees with Kaala Sarpa Dhosam, Sarpa Dhosam, Kalathira Dosam and Puthira Dosam (the curses caused by the Raagu in evil position in ones horoscope) are expiated by the Raagu Bagavaan after worshipping in this temple. An extraordinary feature of this temple is that the milk which is poured over the stone idol of Raagu during abishegam turns blue in colour. In astrology, Raagu is associated with knowledge of foreign languages, medical and chemical proficiency and authoritative power. If Raagu is in a favourable position of the horoscope the person is blessed with power and good marriage life. When raagu is in an unfavourable position of the horoscope it is highly necessary to please raaghu by performing special rituals to alleviate the hardships caused by him. So this temple gains an important place in catering to the spiritual beliefs of large number of devotees to relieve from their curses and lead a peaceful life.
