  • Historical

    Swamimalai is fourth among the six padai veedu or sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Muruga.. Beauty and importance of Swamimalai is found in THIRU MURUGATRU PADAI written by Nakkeerar and THIRUPUGAZH writtenby Arunagirinathar. Swamimalai is where Muruga taught Pranava mantra (OM) to his own father, Lord Shiva, at a young age.

  • Historical

    Thirupadi Pooja There are no hills in Thanjavur district. As hill tops are the favourite abodes of Lord Muruga, an artificial hillock has been made in Swamimalai. There are 60 steps to reach the temple representing tamil years. Hence, Padi Puja (Puja for the steps) is conducted on Tamil and English New Year days, when devotees ascend the steps breaking coconuts, offering fruits and singing hymns.

  • Prayer

    Thanksgiving Tonsuring (offering hair), abishekam with sandal, panchamirtha (a mixture of five ingredients) and milk are performed by devotees.Devotees light lamps and carry milk pots and Kavadi as a form of oblation Those who are in trouble by their rivals perform “Thirisadiarchana”.

  • Others

    Festival The 10-day Tirukaarthikai festival in November-December is the most important festival of the temple drawing crowd in lakhs. The 10-day Chithirai Brahamotsavam in April-May, Vaikasi Visakham in May-June, Aavani Pavithrotsavam in August-September, the 10-day Navarathri in September-October, Aippasi Skanda Sashti in October-November, the 10-day Margazhi Tiruvadirai in December-January, Thai Poosam in January-February and Valli Kalyanam in Panguni (March-April) are the other festivals celebrated in the temple. The festivals falling in Chithirai, Karthikai and Thai Tamil months are inaugurated with flag hoisting. Thirupadi festival for the steps is celebrated on the English New Year day. Also, monthly Krithika star days, the first day of every Tamil month, New Moon and Full Moon days, Sashti days, Visakham star days, Deepavali and Pongal are celebrated with great fervour in the temple. The temple attracts heavy crowd on weekly Tuesdays and all festival days.

Services

Annadhanam: Annadhanam (Free noon meals) is provided to 100 persons per day. Every Sunday and every month Kiruthigai day, Vadai and Payasam are provided along with Annadhanam. Donors can contribute as hereunder 1. Annadhanam per day 100 persons Rs. 3500/- 2. Fixed Deposit (yearly once providing Annadhanam) Rs.85000/- 3. Those who wish to contribute to annadhanam, may directly contact and make payment at the temple office and get the receipt.&ampemsp

  • Golden Chariot

    Temple Gold Chariot is available for devotees on payment for procession on required days . Ticket fare is Rs.2000/-

  • Accommodation Facility

    16 rooms available (Non AC) in the western side of the temple. Tariffs A. Room Number 4 - Rent per day Rs.1500/- B. Room Numbers 1,2,3,7,8,9,10,11,12,15 and 16 - Rent per day Rs.1000/- C. Room Numbers 5,6,13 and 14 - Rent per day Rs.750/- Only 4 persons allowed to stay in the room. Rs.100/- to be remitted per every head beyond the limit.

  • Wheel Chair

    For elderly and differentlyabled persons wheelchair assistance is provided

  • Vehicle Parking

    Parking facilities available on the south street within the compound of dormitory.

  • Library Facility

    Religious and spiritual books are available.

  • Tonsure Facility

    Mudikaanikkai Mandapam is situated in Ettam Thirunal Thoppu. Devotees can get free Mudikaanikkai Ticket from the temple ticket counter.

  • Thulabharam Facility

    Thula Param installed in store room (Ukkirana Room). Devotees can get the receipt after paying Thula Param Kaanikkai.

  • Conduct of Marriage

    Conducting Marriages are allowed in this Temple. The Bride and Bride Groom to submit valid documents as below 10 days before the date of marriage. 1. Certificate of First Marriage. 2. Copy of TC or Mark list for date of birth proof (to be attested by a A or B grade officer) 3. Affidavit signed before Notary Public in the prescribed format. 4. Copy of Aadhar card (to be attested by a A or B grade officer) 5. Copy of Ration card (to be attested by a A or B grade officer) 6. Application from parents or guardians 7. 2 sets of bride and bridegroom photos 8. Invitation 9. If it is second marriage the VAO shall specify. 10. if it is second marriage divorce order copy or death certificate of husband/wife Fee details Marriage fees Rs.2500/-

  • Marriage Hall

    The temple has 2 marriage halls which are let out after perusal of valid documents of the bride and groom Tariffs Marriage hall No.1 This hall situated in left side of south RajaGopuram entrance inside the temple, with a capacity of 200 persons rented at Rs.15000/- per day. Marriage hall No.3 This hall situated in the opposite side of west entrance inside the temple with a capacity of 100 persons rented Rs.10000/- per day

  • Drinking Water R.O.

    Purified drinking water has been installed near the Tirumadaipalli in the southeast of ground floor and another one has been installed near east entrance right side.

  • Free Footwear Stand

    Free Chappal Stand facility available near the south Rajagopuram.

  • Lactating Mothers Room

    Lactating Room Placed in Temple South Rajagopuram Entrance inside of Marriage Hall No.2.

  • Toilet Facility

    In the Temple West side Entrance area, near Vehicle Parking Area, Free Ladies and Gents Toilet facilities available.

Tank Information

Nethra pushkarani: Located in the Eastern side of the temple. The famous Theppa Thiruvizha of the temple during Adi Kiruthigai is held in this holy pond.
