Arulmigu Durgambigai with Ashtabujams is called with numerous names like Vishnu Durgai, Durga Lakshmi, Navasakthi nayagi, Navaratna nayagi, Navagraha nayagi, Navayoga nayagi , Navratri nayagi, Navakodi nayagi. She is adhidevadai for Raghu. Goddess Durga in this temple is very unique from other temples. She is in the form of Santha Sorubini, very Peacefull deity and her feets are about set steps.Goddess Durga stands on mahisham with her mount lion in her Tiripaṅkarupam. Goddess Durga is seen having three eyes , eight hands and with kundalams in her ears. Usually Simha vagana is placed in the right side for kali and Durga , but in this shrine Simha vagana is placed in the left side.This is symbolizes the gentleness of the devi. Along with her Apayakaram she holds conch,chakra, bow arrow,sword and shield. She also holds a parrot in her hand.she was soulfully worshiped by cholas strating from Vijayalayan to Rajendra Chola III. She was placed and worshipped in the northern gate of the later Chola palace. cholas worship this goddess before and after the war to gain victory in the war field. It is told in puranas that raghu worshipped goddess Durga everyday during rahu kalam. It is very significant to workship goddess Durga in rahu kalam instead of worshipping Rahu because she is the adidevadhai for Raghu. Annadhanam: Annadhanam: Under the honorable chief minister of Tamilnadu innovative scheme Annadhana Thittam has been implemented in this temple since 15.08.2002, through this scheme lunch is provided every day to 100 devotees who visit this temple. The project cost for this is Rs.35/- per beneficiary. The lunch includes Rice, Sambar, Rasam, Kutu, Poriyal, Buttermilk, and Pickles on a Banana Leaf along with purified drinking water. Food is prepared in a very hygienic manner in the kitchen and served to the devotees around 12 noon every day. Devotees who want to donate to Annadhanam can visit the temple office in person, pay in cash and get a receipt. For the convenience of devotees, you can pay the donation online at hrce.tn.gov.in under e-services (TM018013-Arulmigu Dhenupureeswarar Temple). Those who wish to pay by check and in money order can visit (Executive Officer,Arulmigu Dhenupureeswarar Temple, Patteeswaram, Kumbakonam -tk, Thanjavur- dt ) in person or send it by post.

    Temple tank Detail - This sacred tank is viewed in the inner side of the temple, near to the south Gopuram and also in front of the Agna Ganapathi Sannathhi. It is also called as Gnanapushkarani, Gnanavabi, Gnanasaras. This sacred tank is guarded by Eversilver gates on both sides. Theerthavari is celebrated in this tank during festivals. The speciality of the Temple Tank - Taking a holy bath during the Vaikasipoornima is seen as the most auspicious ritual. Theerthawari takes place during Tirumulaippal and Thiruvadhirai.
