When Lord Shiva was staying in Kailai, Parvati, who was Umaparametti, playfully covered Lord Shivas eyes with her two hands. At that time darkness enveloped all the worlds. Immediately Lord Shiva opened his forehead eye and removed the darkness. Parvati Requested Lord Shiva to forgive her unknowing mistake for her playful behavior. As per Parvatis request, Lord Shiva took the excellence of Saiva Siddhanta and pointed out that the best way is to anoint Him according to the Agama. Parvati wanted to worship Paramashiva. He left Kailayam and came to Kanchi. He made a Shiva Lingam in the soil at Kampayatangarai and worshiped. Lord Shiva, who wanted to bless the mother, appeared from the root of a mango tree in Kanchi. Lord Shiva, who wanted to dissolve his penance as Umaiyammai was still in penance, resorted to a dance called Kottichetham He had a udukkai in his hand and a thandai at his feet. However, Lord Shiva saw that Parvati was deep in penance and made the water of the Gangas in the braid to flood Parvati in order to frighten her. Seeing the flood, Parvati hugged the Shiva linga with her hands so that the linga she was anointing would not be swept away by the water. Thirumal gave his sister Kamakshi in marriage to Lord Shiva, and the above is believed to be performed in the Thirukalyana Utsavam on the 10th day of Panguni Brahmatsava festival at the Kamba Nadhi in This Temple Tank.
