The temple is built exactly to the east. In the month of Karthika, the sun shines on the Shivalingam. It is said that Rajaraja, who built the temple, gave the town as a temple. However, the Tanjore Peruvadiyar temple is very special as it is known as the forerunner of the hill Marudur Udayarnathar temple.
