Temple Specialty
Prayer: Similar to Kailai, Mailai has seven legendary temples namely Srikabaleeswarar, Srivelleswarar, Srikaraneeswarar, Srivirupakshaswarar, Srivaleeswarar, Srimalleswarar and Sritirthapaleeswarar. This concept is described in a song written by Vyasarpadi Sundara Mudaliyar of Edtayapuram Samasthana, beginning with Tirumaylapur Sthalantanna Maname Ne Darisithal. Rumors say that he was given the name Tirthapaleeswarar because he cured Agathiyar of his illness, and Sritheerthapaleeswarar because it was customary for other temple idols to offer thirthams only after the lord of this temple first performed Tirtham in the ocean during the Masimaga Tirthavari festival.
