Purathanam: There is news about pothigai Hills in Sangam literature. Courtallam is considered as one of the towns of Sangam period. Though it was under the rule of Aoi Andren, the Chola King Kochenkannan planted the sthalavriksham. All these prove that courtrallanathar workship has been in practice since Sanga Period. In `Sivaperuman Anthathi` written by Kabilar in Pallava Period, the natural ambience of Courtallam and the popularity of courtrallanathar are referred to. Its also proves the name and fame of Courtallam and the temple.

Services

Annadhanam: During saral season and Iyyappa seasons food donation is done for 100 persons,and during all days food donations is giving to 50 persons daily, from 12 noon, since 23.3.2002 till date. The Donor may participate in this scheme by investing Rs.30000/- and from the interest of this investment every year Annathanam is given to 100 persons on any one day the donor decides (As per Administration rules).
